	Borderlands is a documentary photography project I began in early 2024, focusing on the changing and often overlooked edges of Poland. Through this work, I explore how interconnected narratives of ecology, humanitarianism, society, and history come together to shape these peripheral spaces.

Poland’s borders have shifted repeatedly over centuries, drawn and redrawn through partitions, wars, and political upheavals. This long and turbulent history of movement and redefinition has left deep marks on the land and its people. The borderlands&#38;nbsp;are places where the past is never far away, where identity and belonging are constantly being questioned, reshaped, and lived in different ways.

I have travelled from east to west, north to south, witnessing people's stories along the way. In the southeastern highlands, I spent time with a family living off the grid, documenting their self-sufficiency and resilience. On the Baltic coast, I photographed a baptism by the sea, a ritual where faith and nature meet at the threshold of land and water. At the tripoint border between Poland, Germany and Czechia, I documented a mining town of Bogatynia, a place fueled by the rhythm of industry, while living in the long shadow of its own past.

Together, these fragments form a nuanced portrait of the Polish borderlands: a geography in constant motion, where human stories echo the shifting lines of maps and places in between.

	In Waiting is a visual diary that delves into the complex and often overwhelming experience of becoming a first-time mother. Set against the backdrop of the global pandemic and the resulting lockdowns, the project captures the isolating and claustrophobic feelings that can come with parenthood, as well as the moments of joy and connection.
Something that often gets forgotten when a firstborn comes into this world, is that it is not only the birth of a child, but also of a mother. Riddled with doubts and fears, it is a metamorphic experience for the whole family changing the relationship dynamic and the way we look at our own parents.
Pregnancy is a time of endless anticipation that abruptly ends with the child's arrival. In Waiting focuses on the period of my life when everything else seemed to be on hold. Since we were initially unable to travel from London to see our families in Poland, the pregnancy became an intimate experience I shared with my husband. Limited mostly to the space of our apartment, I turned the camera on us. I began documenting our lives in this transformative moment, and I have continued doing so with the arrival of our daughter.
The collision of light and shadow plays a central role in this project, highlighting the joys and anxieties that come with the first-time motherhood. Family portraits are tangled with still lifes of mundane parental reality - groceries dumped in a hurry on the table, cabbage leaves for relieving mastitis, and various landscapes from daily walks.
Working on this series has turned into a therapeutic experience, giving me an opportunity to process things that were happening around me - the uncertainty of the pandemic, and the messy rawness of parenthood. Through the lens of first-time motherhood, the series explores the universal themes of identity, belonging, and self-discovery, offering a poignant and honest look at the transformative experience of becoming a parent.

	Beekeepers of North Lawndale


	Beekeepers of North Lawndale is a short-term personal project I shot in Chicago in 2017, collaborating with North Lawndale Employment Network. It is an organization that assists individuals returning from incarceration by providing transitional jobs in beekeeping.Operating within an urban setting, their apiaries extend to unconventional locations, such as O'Hare Airport. With high unemployment rates and a lack of public funding, North Lawndale stands as one of Chicago's most economically disadvantaged areas, and the founder of NLEN, Brenda Palms Barber, is committed to narrowing racial wealth and income gaps by creating opportunities for local residents. &#38;nbsp;I have spent a week with the beekeepers, photographing them at work, and have also documented the area of North Lawndale and its residents, capturing the essence of the neighbourhood. &#38;nbsp;I shot this story as I was interested in exploring the complex relationship between bees and humans, and different ways in which nature affects our lives.

	Travellers
Travellers - an ethnocultural minority in Ireland and England - have a long history of living on the fringes of society, and they have often faced discrimination due to their nomadic lifestyle and the negative stereotypes that surround them. While Travellers have faced exclusion from mainstream society, they have also developed a strong sense of resilience and pride in their unique culture. Many Travellers are working to preserve their traditions and way of life, and to challenge the negative stereotypes and prejudices that have historically been directed at their community.Although many Travellers on the Isles have abandoned their nomadic lifestyle - mostly as a result of forced sedentarisation implemented by governments and authorities - they still take pride in their heritage, with family bonds and strong religious faith at the core of their identity. They are committed to their way of living and holding onto the traditional values of the community.One such element of Travellers’ tradition are annual horse fairs. These events have a long and storied history in both Britain and Ireland, some dating back to the 18th century. Horses have always played a central role in the lives of Travellers, and even as lorries and trailers have come into use, the bond between Travellers and horses remains strong.However, it’s not only colts and mares that you’d find at the fairs. They draw a diverse array of businesses, from fortune teller trailers to antique dealers, clothes stalls, and fast food trucks. Families and friends come together for a weekend of revelry, travelling from all corners of the country. Proud parents dress their children for the occasion - boys and girls wear immaculate tweed suits and satin dresses, carefully navigating around muddy fields on the outskirts of towns where the horse fairs take place. The fairs are a celebration of nomadic culture, a joyful gathering that marks one of the most important events of the year for many Travellers.

Tradition

People of different cultural backgrounds and traditions made London their home, but an Orthodox Jewish community is certainly one of the most private. More than 30,000 Hasidic Jews live in Stamford Hill, a neighbourhood in northeast London. During the annual Purim festival, a giant street party is held where children dress in fancy costumes while adults drink and socialise in celebration of the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia.
Led by a curiosity about such a traditional, religious community in one of the most modern cities in the world, I have been documenting Purim since 2016. Being one of the most festive Jewish holidays, it gives a rare insight into the generally tight-knit community of Stamford Hill. It seems like all boundaries vanish for one day. Adolescent boys drink with their friends and dance on platform trucks with klezmer techno blasting from the speakers. Almost everyone is wearing a costume the more extravagant, the better. Since the beginning of my project, I have seen children dressed up as Rubik's cubes, popcorn boxes, aeroplanes and bananas.For me, Purim is a mixture of past and present. There is a contradiction between the modern references of pop icons, fake cigarettes, and the traditional values at the core of the community's faith. Inspired by the work of Diane Arbus and Mary Ellen Mark, I want to evoke a similar sense of timelessness with this series, hence my decision to shoot this project on an old Rolleiflex camera and limit myself to a restrained black-and-white palette.

A Fantasy on Polish Airs

A Fantasy on Polish Airs is an intergenerational visual dialogue and a photographic journal that spans over centuries. It tells a story of a Polish family divided by conflicts, personal traumas, addictions, and untimely deaths.


Ripped out photos, ghost children, war heroes on flower beds, dead people, and shaky scribblings become a part of a tale taken out of an old family album. It is a cherished heirloom, passed on from generation to generation along with the anecdotes about the people in the photographs. The details become forgotten and replaced by confused storytellers, creating new narratives every time the stories are told. 


The project began and grew organically after I moved to England a decade ago. Every time I visited, I found myself taking portraits of my relatives, documenting the family dynamics, alongside the images from the country I have left. 


After coming across old family albums, I have noticed how similar they are to my own work, and how we focus on common themes. Most photographs have been taken by my great-grandfather Tadeusz. He was a troubled figure - a talented photographer and printmaker, an amateur magician, a wonderful husband and father - yet those who knew him well, witnessed his lifelong&#38;nbsp; battle with alcohol addiction. 


The pictures he took document the family life while the wars and changing regimes unfold in the background. Alongside the photographs from picnics and lake trips, the albums include pictures of bombarded buildings in our hometown, images from soldier's parties,&#38;nbsp; and portraits of people lost to wars.


As I look at the photographs we have taken a century apart, I think of family&#38;nbsp; relationships and the hidden dark secrets from the past and present.&#38;nbsp; I wonder at the things lost to the memory and what narratives we create in the absence of knowledge.
